How do I release the door from my opener so I can open the door by hand?

It's amazing how many people are unsure how to open they're garage door by hand. We're so used to pushing that button and having the door open...  but when the power is out or there are mechanical issues you need to get the door open. Here are simple instructions:
With the garage door fully closed, pull the red release cord down toward the floor. Always take special caution whenever you release the garage door opener if the door is not in the fully closed position, since the door may want to slam closed when released. If at all possible do not release the garage door when open, except for emergency or security purposes and close the door with caution. Some older openers may not have a red release cord and may need to be released by pulling down a handle or a spring loaded clip. If you do have an older door that is difficult to disconnect you may want to replace the opener with a new garage door opener that has an easy pull red release cord.

Got Squeeky Garage Door Springs?

Garage Door Springs can squeak and be noisy. This is caused by normal use and doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. Before calling a garage door systems professional, coat the springs with a spray-on (silicone based)  lubricant recommended especially for garage doors. This will often solve the "squeek". If the noise persists, call a certified door technician for service.

The easiest and most ignored advice for extending the life of your garage door.

What is the easiest and most ignored advice for extending the life of your garage door?
Get Professional Service.

Just once year, have a professional come to perform some simple maintenance on your system. It should cost about $100 to have a garage door company inspect the system and adjust both the opener and spring system if needed. In addition to any work done on the springs and opener, this type of service will typically include a check for wear and tear, as well. Some companies provide the option of a service plan, which can also help reduce the cost. The springs are the heart of the counter balance system, and can relax over time. An improperly balanced spring system can damage the opener, and pose a safety hazard.
Yep, it's that simple - had you garage door maintenance yet?
